It's like somebody turned on a light switch. One day he topples over after five seconds unsupported, the next day he can sit for ten minutes without falling. Yesterday was that day! He sat here and looked out the window, played with the carpet, grabbed his feet, looked around...I don't even know how long it took me to go get the camera, I was so mesmerized just watching him do little checks and balances to keep himself upright. Wow!
Oh, and in case you're inspecting closely, those shiny spots inside his mouth aren't the teeth -- they're just plain ol' spit. (He's a factory, you know.) The teeth are making their way slowly upward, and soon they'll be photographable (I suppose now we could get a picture of them, but that would involve holding Rowan's mouth open as if he were being examined by the dentist, and well, who wants to look at that anyway?) Oh, did I mention that we're brushing the teeth now? Actually we started a few weeks ago. "They" say you can get the baby used to it before teeth come, so he doesn't associate brushing with sore gums. Rowan clearly has no negative associations with his baby toothbrush; he reaches for it eagerly, tries to use it himself, and when I massage his gums with it he just lies there completely still, seemingly afraid this wonderful tickly experience will end if he even moves! It's hilarious.

The little man is growing by leaps and bounds. Before long he'll be asking what makes the sky blue.
