The bottom line of this story is that I came home from Auburn yesterday, while Rowan and Grandmommy loaded into her car and drove home to south Georgia.
The background of the story is that while we're at home, Rowan gets two wonderful days per week with Yolanda while I work. It turns out this is just enough to keep up with my basic work commitments, but not enough to make real progress on things like research and writing, which are critical activities for a Ph.D. student. With the status quo I honestly would have ended up letting some important upcoming deadlines pass until they came around again next year. When Grandmommy learned this, she devised the grand plan that involves me being home and working while Rowan has a wonderful time down in Georgia. He's being showered with affection, getting wagon rides in the country, and I'm sure a visit or two to the nearby theme park is planned. He'll spend about a week doing those things while I have my nose to the grindstone, then I'll drive down. Hooray for grandparents, love, and hard work!
